At Willington Hills we offer lessons in Western and English/Hunt-Seat at all levels from beginner to advanced. We offer a special Beginners Package for $150.00. This includes 6 lessons: two tack-up/horse care instruction sessions where you'll learn how to properly prepare your horse for your lesson, and 4 lessons on horseback.

We also offer special lessons and training in Driving, Dressage, and Centered Riding.

Lesson Policy -- Cancellation Policy -- What to Expect -- Preparing Your Horse for Your Lesson

Lesson Policies

Lessons are for 1/2 hour or 1 hour, private one on one with your instructor in our indoor arena or outdoor dressage area.
Please come at least 1/2 hour early to brush, clean and tack your horse, and be prepared to stay 15-20 minutes afterward to untack and put your horse away.

You should wear long pants (jeans are acceptable), close toed shoes or boots with at least a 1/2 bootheel, and be ready to store any pocket-items (keys, wallets, cel phones, pdas) in a safe place *not* in your pants pocket. We can provide a safety helmet, but if you have your own, please make sure it's for horseback riding! Bike helmets do not provide adequate protection for horseback riding.

Cancellation Policy

If you do not give at least 24 hours notice for a lesson cancellation, you are liable for the cost of that lesson. If possible, we will reschedule lessons on short notice or for other days, but we cannot guarantee any accommodation. Please remember -- if you don't show up for your lesson, your instructor still did. Your instructor still needs to be paid, and the horse still needs feed, veterinary care and faring!

What to Expect

You will ride the same horse each week (if possible) so that you'll know exactly what that horse needs in terms of tack and preparation. This also will allow you to develop a bond with your schoolhorse. We have horses for all levels of rider, each with their own specialties. Once you've progressed, you can switch to a new mount and see how you do with a different horse personality. Fortunately, our beginner horses, Bob and Dancer, are capable all-around athletes who perform well at all levels of English and Western so you never need to switch if you don't want.
